Spouse and Family Visa Options for International Students in Canada

  • Applying together – If you’re applying to study in Canada and your family members want to accompany you, then you can fill out one application form for entire family. If you are applying under different categories, then you need to submit individual forms and additional fee per submission.
  • Work permit for spouses – The international students who study in Canada in a full-time program can support work permit for their spouse in open work permit category. It will allow the spouse or common law partner to work till the end of international student’s study visa duration. The partner with work visa can work for any employer and in any field except in medical institution or the institutions that require registration.

These are the various categories under which family of the international students can apply to enter in Canada. If you plan to stay outside Quebec, then financial requirements are $4,000 per year for first family member and additional $3,000 per year for every additional family member. If you stay in Quebec, then the financial requirements are higher such as for first family member- $5,100 per year and $5,125 per year for every additional family member.
